Prorated Bill
When a bill (like rent or utilities) is divided based on the number of days each person uses it. Helpful for new roommates moving in or someone leaving partway through the month.
Split Equally
Dividing a cost so that each participant pays the same amount, regardless of their usage or order. Example: 4 people, a $100 bill—each pays $25.
Shared Utilities
Bills for things like water, electricity, or wifi that everyone in a group home or apartment uses. These are usually divided evenly, unless someone has significant extra usage.
Service Charge
An automatic fee added—like the tip in restaurants, or cleaning/concierge fees in rentals—often a percentage or fixed amount on top of the main bill.
Overpayment
When someone pays more than their share (intentionally or otherwise) and needs to be reimbursed by the group to balance out.
TTL (Time to Live)
In RoomMate Cost Splitter, a system that automatically deletes group data after 14 days to protect your privacy.
